Are you at the lake trying to enjoy a relaxing weekend but those dang pesky mosquitos and no see ems won’t leave you alone? There are a few things you can do on a regular basis to help reduce the population.
- Keep the leaf debris to a minimum as much as possible. The main nuisance mosquito in Metro Atlanta is the Asian tiger mosquito. It is part of the group labeled artificial container and tree hole mosquitos. The eggs are deposited below leafs that stay moist and after a rain it will trigger the hatching process.
- Along with keeping leaf debris to a minimum another easy thing to do is make sure no gardening pots, old tires, or such items that hold water are left out. A small egg size frying pan can breed as many as 1000 mosquito during the summer months. If there are larger stagnant areas of water not as easy to empty or move we recommend purchasing mosquito dunks and inserting as liable states into those bodies of water. These are considered larvacides and prevent the mosquito from completing their cycle to become adults.
- Next take a look upward and ensure there is no debris in your gutters. That stagnant water is a prime breeding area in very close proximity to your outdoor space wreaking havoc. At least once a year, depending on the tree canopy, it’s recommended to have your gutters cleaned.
